Using Email for Essay AssignmentsOne possible method of implementing student-instructor communication is through regular emails. Below are listed two solutions that might work for setting up an effective and manageable system. Others could easily be developed by instructors depending on the software at their school. Reply to Posted QuestionsThis method consists of three steps. 1. Instructors post the question they are asking to a public web site. One (or more) question might be posted. 2. Students are required to email the instructor their responses to each question individually by a certain time. Each question would require a specific name, for easier filtering (in step 3). 3. The instructor filters student mail into different folders or mailboxes in the email system, so that each question goes into a specific folder. Each folder can then be reviewed for specific student comments (e.g. in Netscape, it can be read by a text editor with all responses in one file). Reply to Emailed QuestionsThis system is the same as that above, only step one changes. Rather than posting questions to a web site, the instructor mails students the question. Students must then reply by a certain time. This process makes filtering of emails easier. Return to essay page |
